Hayti is a small city located in one of the southernmost counties of Missouri. In 2016, there were approximately 2,718 people living in Hayti according to the United States Census Bureau. Hayti is the third largest city in Pemiscot County. The city is located about 6 miles northwest of Caruthersville, Missouri. Caruthersville is the county seat of Pemiscot County and is the largest city therein.
Original inhabitants of Hayti, Missouri were Native American Indians. Eventually, a railroad was carved into the region and afterward, Hayti was platted in 1894. One year later a post office was opened. Since then, a post office has operated in Hayti. It is said the city derives its name from Dr. G. Hayes, a local landowner. It is also said the name of the city is derived from the county of Haiti.
Today, Hayti remains a small and beautiful city. Individuals who visit Hayti will discover a closely knit community of residents that take pride in their city. Hayti is home to a beautiful city square, many businesses, and churches and is located a short distance from major state highways.
