Located in Stoddard County in the southeastern corner of Missouri is a small city known as Dexter. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were about 8,000 people living in the city in 2016. Dexter is the largest city in Stoddard County and is located about 8 miles south of Bloomfield, Missouri, the county seat of Stoddard County.

Dexter was planned by the Cairo, Arkansas, and Texas Railroad Company. Much of the city’s purpose revolved around promoting the railroad and serving as a depot. Although the train company did not remain, settlers continued moving to the area and helped Dexter remain as a thriving and popular city.
